交響曲 風林火山/軍争/孫子 is my comment on the situation of an immigrant composer who has been working the last 25 years in Finland where it is believed to be one of the finest music countries in the world. Generally working in the field of experimental arts is an everyday “WAR” fighting for survival. In order to win the war you must carefully control your resources(=the troop) politically, socially and culturally. But how?  Listen to THE ART OF WAR – WAR SYMPHONY that shows how to.

The word “SYMPHONY” derives from Greek συμφωνία meaning “concord of sound” as well as from σύμφωνος “harmonious” (Oxford English Dictionary). Later the word is used more in a sense of “sounding together“. Thus sounding together harmoniously by a large group of instruments and voices. WAR can never be in “harmonious” but troops that combat must be in “harmonious” under a directorship in order to win its mission successfully.

A troop of visual artists combat during the 4 movements to solve the problem of the dangers of direct conflict (against hyper individualism) and the confrontations that are forced upon them.

Mov.1: Wind: Move as swift as a wind

Mov.2: Forest: Stays as silent as forest

Mov.3: Fire: Attack as fierce as fire

Mov.4: Mountain: Immovable like a mountain

There are no breaks between the movements(=attacca). The above movements in which each combat strategy is introduced are based on the 7th chapter “軍争” of 孫子 by 孫武
